Spring Cleaning Frenzy

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

It is that time of year when our residential electronics recycling programs kick into high gear.  With all of the Earth Day events, citywide cleanups, and workplace events, we are hustling through every day to get it all done.  This is however one of our favorite times of year.  It is great to be able to deal with people and talk with them face to face about recycling and data security.  From interviews on TV morning shows to Earth Day events where we can showcase our onsite data hard drive crusher we love it all.  We have always crushed our customers’ hard drives onsite in front of them so that they can see with their own eyes that their data has been properly destroyed.  Over and over particularly in our residential events we hear comments such as "We are so glad you are here doing what you do".  We really appreciate that.  That is what keeps us going!  We want to show our customer’s first hand that they can trust us to safely and securely recycle their computer electronics.  We try not to charge for recycling most items but when we do these fees go towards the proper recycling practices of responsible electronics recycling.

Honestly it has become difficult to keep our company profitable while handling TV's and other difficult materials such as CRT's and ensuring that they are recycled responsibly.  But since we started this company 10 years ago out of a garage, we have always gone the extra mile to make sure our recycling practices meet proper standards.  Several years ago we obtained our C2 certification which is monitored annually by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to make sure we handle all material in the most environmentally friendly way.  We analyze all computer equipment for reuse as it comes in our door.  We want to reuse more equipment that we have to dismantle.  This is a tricky balance and one that is constantly looked at by our staff.  Over the years we have found ways to reuse equipment that was previously dismantled.  By continuously examining our procedures we can build a more profitable company that can be around for many years to come to process the hundreds of thousands of tons of e-waste we process for our communities each year.

Thank you for recycling with us and giving us good feedback.  Each year we are adding more companies and corporations to our list who are putting on electronics recycling events for their employees.  We love this trend.  More and more companies are seeing that their employees appreciate the opportunity to recycle their electronics and appreciate their companies who sponsor them.  We've also seen more HOA's reaching out to us to put on recycling events for their residents.  Keep up the good work and bring us all those electronics and computers.  We love our work!

Recycling computer electronics

Monday, February 01, 2016
We get this question all the time.  "What happens to our computer equipment after you take it?"  We have been working on this problem for 10 years.  Unwanted computer equipment and sensitive data pose a problem for corporations and individuals alike.  Whether you are a corporation with thousands of employees or a student with an old laptop the issue is the same.  Since the very beginnings of our company's history we have had a very direct and tough approach to data destruction.  We physically crush hard drives in front of people’s faces!  We want people to be certain that their data is destroyed first hand.
Quickly we realized another problem.  What do we do with hundreds of thousands of tons of computers, printers, monitors, home electronics, etc?   As a computer recycling company we realized we needed to do more than just recycle electronics.  Why not reuse and refurbish equipment that has not reached its end of life?  This is a much more environmentally friendly way to handle reusable electronics than to disassemble them and send them to a smelter.  One of the first things we did is register with the State of Texas as an electronics and computer recycling company.  We currently hold a C2 certification from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.  We learned that with the certification requirements that we are required to attempt to reuse 60% by weight of what we process in any given year.  End of life equipment is dismantled by hand at our facility in Denton, TX.  We teardown and sort all metals, plastics, and other materials and supply them to companies who can smelt them in bulk.  We bale our own computer plastics into 1500 lbs bales and take them to bulk plastics dealers.  All of our "downstream" vendors and handlers are checked out by the TCEQ as part of our certification.  Equipment that is deemed reusable is stripped of all assets tags, logos, and company identification.  We can then refurbish pc's, laptops, and LCD monitors after their drives have been destroyed and fresh operating systems installed.

We are constantly looking at our processes to improve them and continue our zero landfill policy.  The revenue that is earned through our efforts allows us to keep providing onsite data destruction, secure and complete computer recycling, and a very cost effective option for business's, families, and individuals who are looking for a great deal on computer electronics.  We feel this a winning solution for our customers and our community.

C2 Certification Explained:

Computer Crusher Recycling, LLC is very proud to announce that as of August 8th, 2013, we have achieved C2 certification, Control #2013034, ID #10032, from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. We have been preparing for this audit since November of 2011. What does C2 compliance mean? We are now recognized by the TCEQ as being in full compliance with all environmental and security processes that the TCEQ has set forth for electronic recyclers. During the site visit and full audit by the TCEQ our paperwork, processes as well as any downstream vendors were thoroughly checked and verified to meet TCEQ compliance criteria. In particular, how your equipment is handled, tracked, and processed once it arrives at our facility is closely verified through the audit process.

We are proud that we pioneered onsite physical data destruction in the computer electronics industry. We truly appreciate your ongoing trust in Computer Crusher Recycling to process your computer electronics in the most secure and environmentally sound processes. We now have the certified credentials to backup our continued efforts to provide you with exceptional computer electronics recycling.
