Recycling Toner Cartridges

Friday, February 19, 2016

One thing is for sure, being in the electronics recycling business you see a wide spectrum of materials to be processed.  A lot of people are surprised when they find out that we don't just recycle computers but a wide variety of products.  We routinely bring in everything from voting machines to toner cartridges.  A lot of customers end up with a lot of left over ink and toner in their store rooms for printers and copiers that they don't even own anymore.  We can recycle these as well as used ink and toner cartridges.

For years we have been recycling voting machines after they are deemed outdated.  We also destroy voting results data that is left on the machines.  Since we dismantle computer equipment by hand at our facility, we deal with all types of metals and ABS plastic.  Many times while we are removing computers from a business we will also take old metal filing cabinets and metal chairs.  We have even been successful at times reselling the filing cabinets and chairs and thus skipping the recycling process.  Reuse is the greatest form of recycling.  We can recycle server cabinets and server rails as well because of the metals used to produce them.  I can remember at least one hospital where we removed and recycled hundreds of metal hospital beds.

For corporations hundreds of keyboards, wires, and cables build up in the IT department as updates and refreshes are implemented.  Monitor stands, software disks, mice, and old Blackberry phones pile up over the years as technology moves at a lightning pace.  Over the years we have developed resources to recycle this wide spectrum of IT equipment.

We are thankful to be able to offer this service of securely and responsibly recycling computer electronics as a certified C2 electronics recycling company based in Denton Texas.  Click the link below to see a full list of all of the products that we keep out of our landfills and help keep our community clean....  over 500,000 lbs last year!

Recycling computer electronics

Monday, February 01, 2016
We get this question all the time.  "What happens to our computer equipment after you take it?"  We have been working on this problem for 10 years.  Unwanted computer equipment and sensitive data pose a problem for corporations and individuals alike.  Whether you are a corporation with thousands of employees or a student with an old laptop the issue is the same.  Since the very beginnings of our company's history we have had a very direct and tough approach to data destruction.  We physically crush hard drives in front of people’s faces!  We want people to be certain that their data is destroyed first hand.
Quickly we realized another problem.  What do we do with hundreds of thousands of tons of computers, printers, monitors, home electronics, etc?   As a computer recycling company we realized we needed to do more than just recycle electronics.  Why not reuse and refurbish equipment that has not reached its end of life?  This is a much more environmentally friendly way to handle reusable electronics than to disassemble them and send them to a smelter.  One of the first things we did is register with the State of Texas as an electronics and computer recycling company.  We currently hold a C2 certification from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.  We learned that with the certification requirements that we are required to attempt to reuse 60% by weight of what we process in any given year.  End of life equipment is dismantled by hand at our facility in Denton, TX.  We teardown and sort all metals, plastics, and other materials and supply them to companies who can smelt them in bulk.  We bale our own computer plastics into 1500 lbs bales and take them to bulk plastics dealers.  All of our "downstream" vendors and handlers are checked out by the TCEQ as part of our certification.  Equipment that is deemed reusable is stripped of all assets tags, logos, and company identification.  We can then refurbish pc's, laptops, and LCD monitors after their drives have been destroyed and fresh operating systems installed.

We are constantly looking at our processes to improve them and continue our zero landfill policy.  The revenue that is earned through our efforts allows us to keep providing onsite data destruction, secure and complete computer recycling, and a very cost effective option for business's, families, and individuals who are looking for a great deal on computer electronics.  We feel this a winning solution for our customers and our community.

Get a New Recycled Computer to Help the Environment

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

Businesses and families are always upgrading their computer. They feel it is important to have the newest computer systems to get the most from them. The old computers are often sent off to landfills once the data stored inside has been securely disposed of. The materials used in computers are very harmful to the environment. The danger they represent to the environment has resulted in special rules of how to dispose of computers. It can make the process difficult and expensive. It does not have to be that way.

Instead of buying new computer equipment, it is possible to refurbish an older computer and make it as good as any new. Computer Crusher Recycling is able to make old computers new and avoid the problems of having to find a way to get rid of the old computers.

What They Do

Computer Crusher takes old computers and instead of tearing the newer ones apart, destroying the data that is on them and leaving the parts to rot the environment, they refurbish the computers and upgrade them so the computers are able to work like new. They prove this everyday with the computers they use to run the business. Computer Crusher Recycling has run its business on refurbished computers for 10 years.

The computers are only a part of the system that has kept these components out of landfills. LCD monitors, printers, keyboards, mice and hard drives are all upgraded when the computers are taken in by Computer Crusher. When customers request to have their data physically destroyed the hard drives are crushed and the hard drive is turned into scrap metal. Some customers prefer to have the drives wiped and can be reused while their personal data is destroyed. When people start to realize how much hardware they have attached to their computer, they also realize the amount of trash they are generating when they get rid of computers. This is not what happens when they choose to refurbish their older computer systems.

Why Get Refurbished Systems?

There are plenty of reasons to consider a refurbished computer system.

  • Helps protect the environment
  • Refurbished systems cost a fraction of the price of new computer systems
  • It is easy to do
  • Refurbished systems come with a warranty

The last reason is the one that Computer Crusher is able to provide for its customers. They allow people to bring their old computers into their facility in Denton, or your computers can be picked up and shipped out by UPS. Once in the hands of Computer Crusher, the computers can be rebuilt thanks to the license held by Computer Crusher that allows them to reload Microsoft Windows 7 and to sell complete systems.

It is time for people to realize that computers are not disposable pieces of equipment, and when they are handled by the right people, they are something that can last for a long time. It is the best choice for everyone involved.
